Standing over 6 feet the stunning writer Erika Veurink went for custom suiting and a quick jaunt to Paris for the Margot shopping spree. Discover what she considers the ultimate investment buys.
It starts with a custom suit. No outfit feels more like armor to me than a tailored suit. I’d commission a made-to-measure, double-breasted number in an almost-black shade of navy or rich forest green from The Deck (starting at £2000). Their styles, especially The Boyfriend Jacket, are my ideal amalgamation of classic, modern, and ultra-sexy. Plus, at 6’2”, custom fit is a borderline essential. Silk-lined, monogrammed in matching thread on the sleeve, and let’s throw in a tuxedo shirt (£395) for optimal styling, right?
Now it’s time to splurge on the kind of coat my grandchildren will argue over long after I’m gone. My mind immediately goes to Max Mara and The Row, two powerhouse brands with legacy coursing through their designs. Since this is a fantasy, this delicious, very Love Story-esque coat from The Row is just the thing. At $13,500, I think we’ll label it an “investment piece.”
How about a bag? Hermès seems like a near no-brainer. I’ve always thought, when presented with the opportunity, I’d take a Kelly over a Birkin any day. I favor a crossbody, for practical reasons, and mostly need space for a book, a small wallet, and headphones. A Kelly 28 found on Vestiaire for $8,512 is just the thing.
And for my last $1,000, I’d book a flight to Paris and march to Coiffeur Vintage for a just-right pair of Levi’s 501s. Stateside, I’ll bring them to the tailor, have the waist taken in, any holes repaired, and wear them to a state of threadbare glory.
Sometimes even the most delightful of fantasies ends in the comforts of everyday life.
