Reflecting on my relationship with clothes and accessories post-baby (now a decade ago) and most recently post-pandemic, I must admit to a lack of consideration for anything other than practicality and comfort. When asked what I would purchase with $25,000, I had to think hard about what would excite me -- what I might WANT -- versus what I simply need.
My style has always been simple and classic, accompanied with touches of sentimental jewelry. I love a good button-down, jeans and winter gear that allows your coat and boots to cover any cares you may have about what is underneath. As I’ve gotten older and am leaning into motherhood and working from home, I rely on these basics more than ever.
When faced with this fun exercise, I naturally thought about beautiful and timeless accessories that could eventually be passed down to my daughter.
I love Cartier for heirloom jewelry, so my first purchase would be the Tank Louis Cartier watch, in yellow gold with brown alligator skin strap, for $9550. This watch has been on my wishlist for many years, as I love its balanced feminine and masculine touches. While in Cartier, I would have difficulty resisting the Cartier love bracelet in yellow gold. $6,900.
With heirloom jewelry purchased, I would then gravitate to jewelry for my multiple ear piercings, which I feel give me a touch of edge. I would add the Maria Tash invisible set five diamond open curve threaded studs in yellow gold for $5070 to the Maria Tash hoops and studs I currently wear. This is such a fun contrast to Cartier.
Having enhanced my basics with jewelry, I would not replace my daily wear jeans, t-shirts, and button-downs. But I would upgrade my look with the tailored Moncler Down Longline Coat for $1815, and add a pop of color - and a bit of street style - with the Bottega Veneta Loop Candy Intracciato small leather shoulder bag in bright green for $1450. The color would make me happy every day, and the compact size lends itself to frequent, easy use.
For my last couple hundred dollars, I would purchase what consistently becomes my best yearly shoe purchase as a NYC resident - a pair of classic UGGs. The UGG Bailey Button II boot in black is only $180, but will complete my look.
My total spend would be $24,965, but my lifetime joy of these pieces would be priceless!
