Simone shares her Palette Inspiration

It appears I’m more of a romantic than I ever realized. Creating the Color Issue has given me a deeper insight into my personality. Why do I gravitate towards some colors more than others? For me, color has the power—much like scent—to transport us to specific places and times.

The colors I remember from my childhood, whether it’s the flowering Jacaranda tree in our garden or the navy of my school uniform, have had a lasting impact on me. To this day, I associate navy with a sense of decorum. Whenever I need to feel put together, I reach for my navy coat. As for Jacaranda blossoms, I don’t think there is a more magical color. I fondly recall a leotard I wore to ballet camp when I was 15 or so. It was the prettiest soft lilac color. Paired with the required pale pink tights and satin pointe shoes, I added a dash of teenage rebellion by wearing electric blue mascara.

To this day, I gravitate towards a palette filled with every shade of blue, purple, and grounding green. Lately, I can’t get enough pink. I adore it and love how unapologetically feminine it is. Perhaps I am seeking a more tender, peaceful world where I can feel cocooned in dreamy watercolor.

Below is a selection of colorful delights inspired by the Color Issue, all created by remarkable women. Color is everywhere; it sets the mood and tells stories. These choices tell my story and my current state of mind.

Precision Color Pencil by 19/99: A creamy formula that can be used all over the face. Lightly smudged on cheeks for a delicate pink flush or freshly sharpened for a defined bold lip. Founded by Camille Katona and Stephanie Spence, 19/99 products encourage us to play and do more with less.

This fuchsia shade reminds me of a lipstick I loved and wore in the ’80s. Finding the right pink can be challenging—nothing too sugary or bubblegum. The Precision Color Pencil in Rosza by 19/99 is the vibrant PINK I’ve been looking for.

Upstate's lilac beach throw lives in my bag and has been my go-to shawl when the air conditioning is too chilly. I also have my eye on the green wall vase and the silk charmeuse hand-dyed pillowcases.

Colorful Sun Protection: Lily-Lark's UPF 50+ bamboo parasols and matching fans feature a variety of fine art prints. My choice is this stunning indigo option.

I can't wait to visit the Flora Animalia store on my next trip to Los Angeles. In the meantime, online shopping will have to do.

All three colors, please. I know I would live in this airy caftan from Flora Animalia. When the weather becomes cooler, I would wear it over trousers.

Alkemis, a wellness paint company founded by Price Latimer and Maya Crowne, is plastic-free, environmentally friendly and has a beautiful velvety finish. Discover the fan deck here

I believe our homes should soothe us. These three dreamy shades from Alkemis would bring a sense of calm and depth to any room.

Romi Loch Davis creates the most stunning braided bags. I own the beautiful Hisako in Pistachio (pictured here) and not a day goes by without receiving a compliment.

Choosing just one shade from Romi's extensive color offerings is both a joy and a challenge. All of the colors are spectacular, but I have a soft spot for Pistachio!

Ballets flats in ballet pink for me.

I am a fan of Estelle Colored Glass. These dreamy coupe champagne glasses are perfect for serving both champagne and sorbet. As a cake lover who adores every shade of purple, I have found the ideal cake stand.
