What is it about a manicure? No other beauty treatment carries the same worldview-shifting, mood-lifting capacity in quite the same way. All of the sudden, the everyday feels elevated.
Digging through your purse for house keys, you spot a flash of cherry red. Thumbing through paperwork you’ve put off, a simple navy sheen inspires action. Even typing away at a computer feels luxurious in a fresh coat of paint.
A manicure isn’t a fundamental change in any part of your being. You’re still you, just with a little more color and maybe a rounded edge.
Taking time to stop by the salon or pluck an unsuspecting bottle from a drugstore display, you’re signaling optimism. A true pessimist could never sit through the time it takes most polishes to dry.
Painting one’s nails is an act of hope, of creativity, and a burst of light in a sea of mundane tasks.
Yes, we live in a world with receipts and spilled coffee. But we also live in a world of manicures. And how lovely is that?
