My Milano: Beautiful and Full of Opportunities

The trajectory from dancer to fashion model is a familiar one, but arriving on the fashion scene from the swimming pool? That’s not one you hear every day! Then again, Cuban-born Keila Guilarte, who honed her graceful sense of movement as a synchronized swimmer before pivoting to modeling, has never been one for clichè. These days, she’s the one holding the camera, shooting everything from fashion and portraiture to heavier-hitting reportage. Here’s how she sees her Milan.

I was born in Cuba, where I lived until I was 18, and then I moved to Europe.

Favorite Milano Area:

Isola

Have you picked up any local habits?

A taste for good food and art.

Is there a Milanese tradition or custom you love?

Aperitivo!

Describe a perfect Milanese day?

My ideal day involves exploring the markets and exhibitions around the city. The Pinacoteca di Brera is an excellent museum, and I enjoy dining at Gong and visiting 10 Corso Como.

Even though I think I know the city well, I keep discovering new things to photograph with my camera!
